Lighting Buying Guide
Choose a light by checking four things: fixture size, light output, colour temperature and electrical compatibility. A design that looks right in a photograph still needs to fit your space and installation.
What should you measure before buying?
Measure the available space and compare it with the fixture dimensions on the product page. For a pendant, check both the light body's dimensions and the hanging length. For a wall light, check its projection as well as its height and width.

Should you compare lumens or watts?
Compare lumens for brightness and watts for electrical power use. Wattage alone does not tell you how much light two different products produce. The U.S. Department of Energy's lumens guide explains why light output is a useful comparison when choosing bulbs.
If a product lists wattage but no lumen output, ask for the missing specification rather than assuming an equivalent brightness.
What does colour temperature mean?
Colour temperature describes the appearance of the light and is expressed in kelvins (K). It is different from brightness. Check the stated colour temperature and available settings for the exact model. See ENERGY STAR's lighting guidance for an explanation of light appearance.

Will a light work in your country?
Compatibility must be confirmed for the specific product and destination. Check voltage, plug or hardwired connection, lamp holder, controls and installation requirements. Do not assume that a similar-looking model has the same electrical specification. Have fixed lighting installed by a qualified local electrician.
What should you confirm before ordering?
- The correct model, size, finish and included components.
- Any supplier measurements marked for confirmation.
- Electrical compatibility and local installation requirements.
- Delivery arrangements and any destination-specific charges.
- Return arrangements, especially for a large or fragile fixture.
